Hero MotoCorp’s first electric 2-wheeler for India could be the Gogoro Viva, a petite urban commuter with 85 km claimed range on a single charge.
India’s top 2-wheeler brand plans to launch an electric 2-wheeler in the fourth quarter (Q4) of FY22. It had recently partnered with Taiwan-based Gogoro for the same.
The companies stated they will collaborate on electric vehicle development to bring Hero-branded 2-wheelers to market and also establish a battery swapping joint venture to bring Gogoro’s battery swapping platform to India.
Now, it has come to light that the Taiwan-based 2-wheeler brand has already trademarked the Viva moniker in India, apart from obtaining the patent for its design.
The uncovering of the Gogoro Viva patent provides strong backing to speculations about Hero potentially launching the Gogoro brand in India as its electric vehicle arm.
Viva comes with a single swappable battery that is stored under the seat which gives it an effective range of 85 km (when driven at 30 km/hr).
Powering the scooter (which comes in “Basic” and “Keyless” variants) is an electric motor with a maximum power output of 3 kW (4 HP). The motor can send up to 115 Nm of torque to the rear wheel.
Weighing only 80 kg with the battery in place, the Gogoro Viva has been styled as a simple and easy-to-ride scooter. It does come with an LCD negative display, iQ System Smart Keycard, smartphone connectivity, all-LED lighting, keyless go and 21.6-litre under-seat storage.
Telescopic front forks and dual rear shocks form the Viva’s suspension, 180 mm discs at the front and rear provide stopping power, while it rides on 10-inch alloy wheels with 90/90-section rubber upfront and 100/90-section tyre at the rear.
