The iconic American muscle car, Ford Mustang is in its fifth generation at present. It has got a few facelifts with engine upgrades and now it is expected to get a new generation avatar soon. The next generation Mustang will be available in right hand drive to serve the UK and Australian markets. Ford could also launch it in India in limited numbers for brand building. The all-new model of the Ford Mustang is being designed for global sales and is due to be unveiled at the 2014 New York Motor Show on the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang. A 2014 ½ model will be sold in limited numbers.
The all-new Ford Mustang will be sculpted with sharp and futuristic design language, reflecting a sleek stance, inspired by the 1968 coupe. It will be available with three engine options internationally – 4-cylinder turbo, V6 and V8. According to reports, Ford’s global vice president of sales and marketing, Jim Farley, will announce the confirmation of next generation Mustang in Australia next month. The new Mustang will hit Australian roads in 2016 by replacing the Ford Falcon.
It has been 50 years since Ford imported a dedicated right-hand-drive Mustang to Australia. The Australian market is likely to get the V8 performance models. With Australia using right hand drive, we in India can now get the Mustang. The price of the new Mustang is expected to be close to $50,000 (Rs. 30 lakhs) and it will touch Rs. 45 lakhs in India due to the hefty CBU duties. We don’t expect many engine options and trims in the Indian market, instead the American automaker could introduce limited examples of the Mustang to enhance its presence in our country.
