Citroen is planning to launch its electric micro SUV in India by 2022 with a price tag in the region of Rs. 8 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Groupe PSA wants to be early to the party with its mass market micro electric SUV (e-SUV) that has been codenamed eCC21 and take on the likes of the Mahindra eKUV100 (priced at Rs. 8.25 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi)), the upcoming Tata HBX, Renault Kwid EV and the Maruti Wagon R EV.
All the upcoming cars mentioned above are expected to be launched in the market within the next 24 months, with the exception of Maruti’s EV and consequently its Toyota twin.
To be built on Citroen’s small car platform called C-Cube that is being developed specifically for emerging markets, the micro e-SUV will be produced at the plant situated at Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu.
While India is expected to be a key export hub for such electric vehicles, it is also said that Citroen has decided to keep the e-SUV’s manufacturing base in Europe and source parts from India.
Before the Citroen electric micro SUV gets launched in India, two products, namely the C5 Aircross and the recently spied compact SUV, will be launched in India by next year.
What’s more, the compact SUV is touted to be able to run on fuel with high levels of ethanol blend. This, the firm hopes would give it the first-mover advantage in the flex-fuel space in India.
