Commercial assembly of the Citroen C5 Aircross has commenced at the carmaker’s facility in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu and the first batch of the SUV has rolled out from the manufacturing line.
Slated for launch in this quarter, the trial production of the model commenced last year. The car will be the automaker’s first product for Indian customers and its flagship model.
Thus, the SUV will come with a multitude of features including a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with phone mirroring, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a panoramic sunroof (top variant).
Also, the C5 Aircross will have the brand’s “Progressive Hydraulic Cushion” equipped suspension system, foot operated electric tailgate (top variant), Park Assist (car steers itself), Blind Spot Monitoring System, Grip Control System with multiple drive surface options, engine stop-start, among others.
To be launched with a 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with shift and park by wire control, the C5 Aircross will also feature 6 airbags and a whole host of safety features.
With the Citroen C5 Aircross assembly having commenced, the carmaker is expected to waste no time in launching the model that will take on the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and the likes.
The carmaker is also working on a compact SUV codenamed CC21 that will also be launched this year as a petrol-only model and rival the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Nissan Magnite and the likes.
Its fully-electric variant is also under development and will come with 2 battery variants. This electric model will be put on sale by 2022.
