Citroen India To Launch 4 New Cars Starting From 2021
Citroen will introduce C5 Aircross in 2021 followed by 3 new made-in-India cars every year up to 2023.
Citroen India cars lineup revealed for up to 2023. The French carmaker announced their India entry last year. They also showcased their first product for our market which is the C5 Aircross SUV. They were expected to launch the C5 Aircross in September this year but now the launch is pushed to 2021.
It will be imported to India via CKD route and assembled locally. It is likely to get a single 180 HP 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The C5 is expected to come with a price tag of Rs. 30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
After this, Citroen will introduce 3 new cars under their “C Cubed” program which stands for Cool, Comfort and Clever. It will include a Hyundai i20 rivalling premium hatchback, Honda City rivalling C-segment sedan and Hyundai Venue rivalling compact SUV.
By 2023 they will introduce all these cars, one car each year. While the C5 Aircross will be the only CKD product here. The rest of the cars will get local production with heavy localisation. Citroen plans to manufacture these cars in India and later export it to other countries as well.
They will commence their manufacturing operations in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The powertrain and engines of the locally made Citroen cars will be sourced from their joint venture plant owned by Groupe PSA and AVTEC in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
The French carmaker is also preparing to launch electric vehicles in India but it’s still a while away once the infrastructure is ready for EVs.
