The new Citroen compact SUV will be based on the C4 Cactus sold internationally, will compete against Hyundai Creta.
Citroen is set to commence its sales in India by 2020 with the C5 Aircross. The carmaker will launch a compact SUV in the Indian market as their second product, which will be going on sale in 2021. Although, Citroen is developing the third product which will be a mid-sized SUV. It is meant to go on sale as a Hyundai Creta rival.
The new compact SUV will be based on the international C4 Cactus but it will be highly localised for the Indian market. We can expect the quirky design aspects and styling which has always been Citroen’s signature.
The mid-size SUV is expected to get a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. It will also be getting some level of hybridisation as per the industry trends, which would be required to meet the RDE or real-world driving emission tests that come into effect in 2023.
The new Citroen SUV will be competing against the second generation Hyundai Creta, which will be launched by the time Citroen SUV gets into the Indian market. It will also be competing against Kia Seltos and Tata’s new SUV codenamed Blackbird.
