With the added optional safety pack, the India Bound SUV scored full marks.
The Euro NCAP conducted safety tests and the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV got awarded with a 4-star rating for its safety measures. The C5 was subjected to a series of crash tests including front offset deformable barrier test conducted at 64 km/hr, full-width rigid barrier test at 50 km/hr, side mobile barrier test at 50 km/hr, side pole test at 32 km/hr and whiplash slow speed sledge tests at 16 km/hr and 24 km/hr.
Coming to the pedestrian based tests, they included a pedestrian head impact test at 40 km/hr and a pedestrian lower leg & upper impact test at 40 km/hr. With the autonomous emergency braking (AEB), the Euro NCAP carried out different tests under different conditions and speeds. These include AEB city test at 30 km/hr and the AEB pedestrian test at 30 km/hr. The C5 managed to stop colliding in the test. In the AEB inter-urban test which takes place at 55 km/hr, the vehicle reduced its speed to 32 km/hr, while in another AEB pedestrian test, the C5 avoided a collision when moving at 25 km/hr and reduced speed to 12 km/hr when the test was conducted at a speed of 35 km/hr. Additionally, it also avoided colliding in the cyclist test which is conducted at a speed of 45 km/hr.
The overall score for the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV is 4-stars. The SUV offers a lot of standard safety features for the international markets. It scored an overall 87 percent for adult occupant safety and 86 percent for child occupant safety. Moreover, it scored 58 percent in vulnerable pedestrian test and 75 percent in the safety assistance categories. With the optional safety pack, the vehicle managed a full score in the Euro NCAP test.
Groupe PSA will be entering India with the Citroen brand and the upcoming vehicle is expected to offer similar levels of safety. The Citroen C5 Aircross will be launched in India by the end of 2020 and the company will introduce more vehicles in the following years.
