Citroen Basalt SUV coupe production version spotted without camouflage
Citroen Basalt spotted completely undisguised in India ahead of its launch. The French carmaker revealed the near-production concept version few weeks back exhibiting the unique body style of the SUV coupe. This time around the toned down production version has been spotted with red plates.
The front profile looks similar to the rest of the Citroen family on sale in India right from the C3 hatchback up to the C5 Aircross SUV. The rear profile is where it stands out of the crowd. It gets sharp LED tail light cluster, steeply raked roofline that merges well into the boot. The rear bumper doesn’t get the faux skid plate detailing like the one seen on the Vision concept.
The interiors will look similar to the C3 Aircross SUV. The siblings will share most of the parts and features to keep the economies of scale in check. We might see different colour tones to differentiate the two products and some extra features to add to the premium appeal of the crossover.
The Citroen Basalt will get the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine as seen on the C3 Aircross. This petrol motor produces 110 PS and 190 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There won’t be any diesel engine on offer with the Basalt.
Citroen will be offering the Basalt to the domestic market and it will also be exported to other markets as well including South America.
It will compete with the Tata Curvv in the Indian market. Other competitors in this price bracket will include Maruti Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate and the likes.
