Citroen Basalt coupe SUV teased ahead of debut in India, launch likely by 2024 end
Citroen Basalt coupe SUV, that was known as C3X until now, has been teased officially for the first time. The new product from the French carmaker with a unique body type will make its debut on 27th March as a concept.
The carmaker will reveal the design of their upcoming product and are expected to launch the Basalt by the festive season later this year in India. The C3 based crossover will be offered to the domestic market and is likely to be exported to other markets as well.
The Citroen Basalt is based on the same CMP platform and it will share most of its mechanicals with the existing products in Citroen’s lineup. The new crossover is likely to offer more features than the C3 Aircross.
We have spotted the prototype multiple times and after looking closely at some of the test mules, we believe the exterior will have the same design language as its other siblings until the B-pillar. The rear section will get a unique treatment with the roof sloping down to merge with the boot. The tail lamps in the teaser look premium with LED detailing. We hope the production version carries the same elements.
The interior is likely to be the same as the C3 Aircross but with minor tweaks like new colour tones and some extra features. We hope the head room for the rear passengers and the boot space isn’t compromised with this design layout.
The Citroen Basalt will be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine producing 110 PS and 190 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There will be no diesel engine on offer.
It will compete with the Tata Curvv in the Indian market. Pricing is expected to be more premium than the C3 Aircross or at least similar to it. What are your thoughts on the design of this coupe SUV? Let us know in the comments section.
