Unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year, the Hyundai ix25 will be the South Korean automakers foray into the compact SUV segment globally. The ix25 shares its underpinnings with the next generation i20, with both the models being based on the same platform. The Chinese auto paparazzi also captured a glimpse of the interiors of the ix25, revealing the Santa Fe inspired interiors on the test mule. Now, the Chinese media have reportedly leaked the engine options, variants and prices of the ix25 ahead of its launch in China on 9th October, 2014.
The ix25 will be offered in a total of seven variants and two petrol only engine options. The 1.6-litre petrol motor that will make around 116 HP is expected to power 5 out of the 7 variants, while the 2.0-litre motor that will make around 148 HP will be offered in two variants. Transmission options are most likely to be 6-speed manual and automatic sending power to the front wheels or all four wheels. A total of three variants will be offered with four-wheel drive (4WD) technology. Recent spy shots confirmed the top-end 2.0-litre model will come with 4WD, while the 1.6-litre motor top-end variant and top-end with options pack will get 4WD as standard. All 4WD models are most likely to be paired to an automatic transmission.
In terms of pricing, the ix25 2WD manual base variant is expected to carry a price tag of 1,29,800 Yuan (Rs. 12.56 lakhs), followed by the 2WD Automatic Comfort priced at 1,39,800 Yuan (Rs. 13.52 lakhs) and the 2WD Automatic Enjoy variant is expected to be priced at 1,49,800 (Rs. 14.49 lakhs). The 4WD Automatic Luxury trim will be priced at 1,59,800 Yuan (Rs. 15.46 lakhs) and the 4WD Automatic Distinguished Type at 1,69,800 Yuan (Rs. 18.37 lakhs). The prices however are not official, and the actual prices will be released by Hyundai on the launch date.
Expected to be launched in the first half of 2015 in India, the ix25 will be available with petrol and diesel engine options. Much like all of Hyundai’s products, the compact SUV will carry a very competitive price tag. Measuring in at 4.2 metres in length, the ix25 compact SUV rivals the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano along with the range of upcoming models in the segment. With the ix25, Hyundai is aiming to expand its SUV line-up globally which is currently limited to the Santa Fe and the ix35 models.
