The Chevrolet Trax is expected to be launched in India by 2014. This mini-SUV was first showcased at the Paris Motor Show this year and it was later announced by General Motors for quite a few markets. With the mini-SUV market hotting up here at our shores it is more than logical for Chevrolet to get a piece of the action. Howver GM will not use the Trax name as its owned by Force Motors, instead the vehicle may be badged as Tracker for India.
The Chevrolet Trax has three engine options on offer internationally, a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol producing 138 BHP, a 1.6-litre petrol with 130 BHP as well as a 1.7-litre turbo-diesel producing 128 BHP of power and 300 Nm of torque. The Trax comes with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic tranmissions. We expect it to be launched with the diesel engine in India.
The Chevrolet Trax is based on the platform of the Chevrolet Sonic (international replacement of the Aveo) and shares most of its parts with the Opel / Vauxhall Mokka. A 4-wheel drive option is available too. Given the ride and handling package of the Beat and the Sail U-VA, it is expected the Trax will be quite competent in this area. Also internationally, it comes loaded with features and has a very contemporary interior. We can hope GM will retain all the features when it is launched in India.
Though exact details are not known, we expect the Chevy Trax to be launched by 2014. It will be quite interesting to see how the India customers respond to this car. The Sail U-VA has not yet set the sales charts on fire, but given how competent the Trax is along with India’s current obsession with compact SUVs, we can expect it to get quite a few numbers for GM.
