The Chevrolet Spin will be launching in India next year and will definitely make its competitors a little nervous as General Motors India would not want the Chevrolet Spin to have a similar fate as the Chevrolet Enjoy.
After not being able to grab the attention of customers in the MPV market with the Chevrolet Enjoy, General Motors India is now going to try its luck with another offering in the same category, the 7-seater Chevrolet Spin MPV. Last month, General Motors India had announced that they will be launching the Chevrolet Spin MPV in 2016 and Chevrolet had recently imported the Spin MPV to India for tests. One such test mule of the Chevrolet Spin MPV has been caught testing recently.
The MPV segment has been witnessing immense growth in India for a very long time now. Almost all car manufacturers have launched a vehicle in this category to grab a piece of the ever so growing cake, and those who haven’t yet, are trying to launch an MPV at the earliest. The Chevrolet Enjoy due to its boxy and not-so pleasing design didn’t manage to scare its competitors even a little. But GM is now finally upping their game by planning to throw in the Chevrolet Spin MPV into the market.
Measuring 4360 mm in length, 1735 mm in width and 1683 mm in height, the Chevrolet Spin will be powered by both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine will either be a 1.2-litre, four cylinder DOHC 16 valve dual VVTi, which gives out a maximum power of 85 BHP at 5600 RPM and 115 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM or a 1.5-litre petrol motor which gives out 107 BHP at 6000 RPM and 142 Nm of torque at 3800 RPM. The diesel engine will most likely be the 1.3-litre, 4 cylinder common-rail direct injection, turbo-diesel engine that produces 74 BHP at 4000 RPM and 190 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM which is also found on the Enjoy. The Spin MPV will most likely have a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Chevrolet Spin is already on sale in markets like Indonesia and offers the usual bits equipment wise, such as, power windows for all windows, remote key, adjustable headrests on all three rows, three point retractable seat belts on all three rows, 60:40 split fold-able second row seats and an infotainment system featuring radio,Aux,USB and Bluetooth support with 4 speakers. GM may or may not continue to sell the Chevrolet Enjoy alongside the Chevrolet Spin MPV which will directly rival the Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and the soon to be launched Renault Lodgy. The Spin will be more spacious than the Ertiga similar in size to the Mobilio, but the success of a product ultimately comes down to pricing, which might also decide the Spin’s fate.
