General Motors will launch the Chevrolet Sail U-VA on the 25th of October 2012, a source has revealed to us. The Sail U-VA will replace the Aveo U-VA and will be priced very aggressively. It will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ritz and Toyota Etios Liva. GM is betting big on the Sail twins to capture a considerable market share in the B and C-segments, where the American car maker has tasted little success with the the Aveo siblings.

The Chevrolet Sail U-VA is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 85 BHP of power, while the 1.3-litre diesel produces 77 BHP of power. Both these engines will be very frugal and are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The vehicle has very good space and excellent ride quality, which will appeal to buyers looking for a practical hatchback. The Chevrolet Sail U-VA will be offered in 4 variants – PS, LS, LT and LT (O). The top-end variant will be loaded with alloy wheels, ABS and airbags.

GM India has been lagging in market share considerably, with many of its vehicles not doing well. The Chevrolet Cruze has been selling well but the Beat diesel hasn’t really sold as many as GM would like. The Chevrolet Optra is being phased out soon, while the Captiva’s heavy CBU pricing puts it out of contention for most SUV buyers. GM plans to launch the Enjoy MPV soon, which is being tested across India. The below vehicle was spotted by Ram Shankar near Whitefield in Bangalore.
