The Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatchback was showcased for the first time at the New Delhi Auto Expo 2012 and launched nationwide on November 2nd, 2012. It features Chevrolet’s signature dual port chrome grille, Hawk Wing styled headlamps and is available in 7 colors. It is one of the most spacious cars in the hatchback segment. The engineers at the GM Technical Center in Bangalore participated in localization of the vehicle to meet local requirements.
The car is available in 1.3-litre turbocharged DOHC diesel and 1.2-litre petrol Engine variants. The 1.3-litre diesel engine delivers 22.1 km/l while the 1.2-litre petrol engine delivers a mileage of 18.2 km/l. GM offers a huge choice of additional accessories to its Indian customers such as chrome finished headlamps, tail lamps, door handles, OSRVM and weather guard, and a rear spoiler for the exteriors. Illuminated sill plates, vinyl dashboard trim and ambient lighting is offered for the interiors.
For entertainment, the car offers double din audio system and two multimedia screens fitted on the headrests. For convenience, the car offers engine push start system and a mini car refrigerator. Gear lock, security system, fog lamps and reverse parking sensors are also offered for safety measures.
The original Aveo UVA was a simple looking hatchback and one that was particularly known for its spacious interiors, but it didn’t work well in the Indian market. With the launch of this Shanghai-designed Sail which has already seen a tremendous response in Chinese markets, GM is hopeful that this premium hatchback would meet the requirements of the Indian market and the company wants to attract Indian car buyers by offering loads of additional accessories. The Chevrolet Sail U-VA comes with a starting price of Rs. 4.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
