Take a good look at this Chevrolet Van as very soon General Motors will be launching this Van in India. The test mules of this Van have been spotted over time doing test rounds in Gujarat. Named as N200 in the international market this van will be a sophisticated competitor to the Maruti Eeco. It comes with a 1.2-liter petrol engine abroad but it goes without saying that Chevrolet will have to launch it with a diesel engine in India. The petrol should be sold with a company fitted CNG kit to attract the taxi market. Space and flexibility is one USP of the N200 but there is also another good news as the N200 is less than 4-meters which translates into lower excise duties. Attracting just 12% excise duty, the N200 will be a value for money car.
The Chevrolet N200 is expected to be in showrooms by next year and will be showcased at the Auto Expo in January 2012. What is needed to be seen is will the market respond to this retro type of design which was a hit back when the Maruti Omni was the perfect family car. Todays buyer looks at the Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xlyo as a perfect family car and these cars have set a five door design as a convention and breaking it for will be a difficult task for the N200.
