A development mule of the BS6 Tata Hexa has been spotted testing near the firm’s factory in Pune.
Expected to be launched sometime during next year, possibly after the Gravitas enters the market, the BS6 test car was sporting the XMA badge much like the earlier mule spotted in September, while the 4×4 badge was missing from its place.
Tata did not make any efforts to cover the car up with camo stickers, and rightfully so, for we already know it is only a matter of time before the car gets relaunched.
Riding on steel wheels, the XMA 4×4 variant would be a new trim that will be added to the SUV’s variant list.
No design changes have been made to the model, and it still has got the chrome window garnish that extends till the top of the tail lights.
But, the stop lights are now connected by a black trim piece housing the manufacturer’s emblem. It continues to sport dual exhaust outlet pipes as well.
Discontinued earlier this year when the BS6 emission regulations came into effect, the 7-seater car was earlier showcased at this year’s Auto Expo in Safari Edition variant.
When it gets launched in BS6 guise, including the Safari Edition sporting green paint, different interior upholstery and Safari badging (similar to Harrier Camo Edition), the car will be powered by the tried and tested 2.2-litre diesel motor.
But, Tata might offer it only in Varicor 400 tune in which the engine puts out 154 BHP and 400 Nm and not in the lower Varicor 300 tune.
Two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic – will be available and of course, the car will have 4-wheel-drive.
