Hero MotoCorp has launched the BS6-compliant Xtreme 200S with a price tag of Rs. 1,15,714/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Design-wise, the BS6 version of the bike looks the same as it did in its BS4 guise. Thus, it sports a full fairing, gets a twin LED headlamp, a chiselled fuel tank (slightly larger at 12.8 litres now), single piece seat, LED tail lamp.
Features too are the same with there being an LCD digital display, Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.
The biggest change is with the engine, which, is now compliant with the latest emissions norms. The 199.6cc fuel-injected engine now makes 17.8 HP at 8500 RPM and 16.45 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. There is also an oil-cooler now and the engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
Grudgingly, the power and torque figures are lower than what the BS4-compliant engine produced, which were 18.4 PS at 8000 RPM and 17.1 Nm at 6500 RPM.
Due to the addition of extra items such as a catalyser and an oxygen sensor, among other things, the motorcycle now weighs 154.5 kg, 5.5 kg more than the BS4 version.
Sporting a diamond frame, the bike comes with telescopic forks upfront and a 7-step adjustable monoshock at the rear. There are 100-section front and 130-section rear tyres, while the brake discs measure 276 mm (front) and 220 mm (rear) and there is single-channel ABS as standard.
Colours offered are three in number and they are Sports Red, Panther Black and Pearl Fadeless White (new).
Admittedly, the elephant in the room is the BS6 Xtreme 200S price, which is a significant jump over the BS4 version, which was, when launched back in May 2019, priced at Rs. 98,500/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the carb variant.
We have to wait and see how it fares against rivals such as the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.
