Jaguar has commenced the pre-bookings for the flagship 2014 XJ in India. The updated 2014 Jaguar XJ is scheduled to launch in June this year and customers can choose to book the luxury sedan at an initial amount of Rs. 5 lakhs. The British manufacturer had announced at the 2014 Auto Expo that the 2014 XJ will be locally assembled in India, which will take place at JLR’s facility in Pune.
The 2014 Jaguar XJ will get two new petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol unit is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 240 PS of power at 5500 RPM and 340 Nm of torque 1750 RPM. 0-100 km/hr comes in 7.5 seconds, while the top speed of the car is 241 km/hr with a fuel efficiency of 9.4 km/l. The diesel variant on the other hand is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine producing 275 PS at 4000 RPM and 600 Nm at 2000 RPM. 0-100 km/hr comes up in 6.4 seconds and the top speed is rated at 250 km/hr. The fuel efficiency on the diesel engine is rated at 12.9 km/l. Both variants are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels.
The current Jaguar XJ was updated in 2009 and has been more or less the same. The XJ will get its first major update in 2015 with tweaks to the styling and the addition of more gadgetry on the inside. The model is most likely to go on sale by the end of this year internationally. Jaguar will be bringing in a whole new range of models in the future including the XE small sedan, C-X17 SUV and the next generation XF.
India gets the Long Wheel Base (LWB) Jaguar XJ edition and will be competing against the 2014 Mercedes S-Class, the current benchmark in the segment; as well as the ageing BMW 7-Series and the soon to be launched 2014 Audi A8. With Jaguar bringing the XJ via the CKD route, prices are expected to be significantly lower than the current version and will be announced at the time of launch in June.
