The Tata Bolt hatchback and Zest compact sedan are the company’s brand new products after a gap of five years. The company is betting big on these new cars to take the company forward into a completely new direction. Now our sources tell us that the company is planning to launch both the models in the first half of June this year. All Tata showrooms across India are currently under renovation to be complete by May in order to welcome the brand new products with a new positioning for the company. Our reader Obed Daruwala also caught up with the Zest testing with heavy camouflage in Dhankawadi, Pune recently.
With the on-going extensive testing on both the products, Tata Motors is making sure to get it right the first time round. The Bolt and the Zest were first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo last month and our first impressions have been quite positive about both the models. The cars have showcased an evolutionary new design with improved levels of quality. The Bolt and the Zest are powered by Tata’s new 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron petrol engine producing 85 PS of power and 140 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.3-litre Multijet will continue to be offered with 75 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque. The cars also pack in class leading equipment on offer.
The HORIZONEXT program has surely improved the quality standard of Tata Motors and the Bolt and the Zest are a testimony of the same. While the prices are still unknown, we expect the automaker to price the Bolt hatchback around Rs. 4.3 lakhs with competition coming from the Maruti Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and the Volkswagen Polo; while the Zest compact sedan could be priced around Rs. 4.75 lakhs, when launched in June competing against the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Maruti DZire in the compact sedan segment.
