The BMW X3 and X5 were available only in diesel variants in India and the company has launched the petrol trims now.
BMW has widened its offerings in the SUV segment with the launch of the X3 xDrive28i and X5 xDrive35i in India. These X series SUVs were already offered in diesel guise and now, the company has launched the petrol version of them. The new BMW X3 and X5 will be assembled locally at the company’s Chennai plant.
The BMW X3 xDrive28i carries a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 245 HP of power and 350 Nm of torque from 1250-4500 RPM. Whereas, the BMW X5 xDrive35i has a 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 306 HP of power and 400 Nm of torque from 1200-5000 RPM. Despite being tuned at different power figures, both the SUVs do the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.5 seconds. The engines are mated to a six-speed Steptronic transmission and come with an all-wheel drive system.
The xDrive and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) technology, as the company claims, provide the required grip and stability for all type of road conditions. All other features by BMW have been carried forward in both the vehicles. The BMW X3 flaunts an exclusive ‘xLine’ design scheme and X5 comes with ‘Design Pure Experience’ Package.
The BMW X3 xDrive28i and X5 xDrive35i are offered with four colour options each, with one being non-metallic and others of the metallic type. The X3 petrol variant has been priced at Rs. 54.9 lakhs and, the X5 carries a price tag of Rs. 73.5 lakhs (both the prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
