BMW India will be launching the third generation X5 SUV in India on 29th May, 2014. Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo earlier this year, the X5 facelift exudes a fresh look with changes to the styling and has also grown in dimensions improving the cabin space of the luxury SUV. Keeping the 2014 X5 updated are significant additions to the exteriors. The front fascia gets a bolder and wider kidney grille with an integrated revised headlamp cluster that gets adaptive LED lights, while the bumper features wider ducts for improved air intake.
Complimenting the front fascia is the very strong shoulder line running across the side profile of the 2014 X5 facelift. The X5 maintains an upright stance and displays a strong road presence as well, while the rear retains the signature X5 look with quad exhausts and redesigned tail lamps for a sharper and more contemporary appearance. On the inside, the all new X5 will come with a highly revised dashboard that is very reminiscent to the other models seen in BMW’s line-up. You do get the inclusion of new leather upholstery, new wood inserts, updated iDrive system as well as the latest BMW tech wizardry loaded into the cabin.
The 2014 BMW X5 is 32 mm longer, 5 mm wider and 14 mm taller than its predecessor, which translates into a roomier cabin. The SUV comes with a 5-seater or 7-seater layout. BMW has also managed to make the 2014 X5 lighter than the outgoing model and it weighs in at 2070 kgs. In terms of powertrain, the X5 will come with the same 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine (also seen on the 530d sedan) that produces 258 BHP of power, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. 0–100 km/hr comes up in 6.9 seconds on the X5. The 2014 BMW X5 is expected to come with a starting price tag of Rs. 70 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the 3.0-litre version, competing against the Audi Q7 and Mercedes GL-Class.
