BMW is planing to launch the F650 GS motorcycle in India by May 2012. The BMW F650 GS is an adventure motorcycle, which is going to be priced below Rs. 10 lakhs (on-road, Pune). Featuring a trellis frame, the F650 GS is powered by 798 cc, parallel twin engine that produces 71 BHP of power at 7000 RPM and 75 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM. This enable the BMW F650 GS to reach a top speed of 185 km/h. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and the bike features 110/80/19 tyres at the front and 140/80/17 tyres at the rear.
The BMW F650 GS might not do scorching 0 – 100 km/h times but is a very practical machine. It can be ridden on and off-road while most of the Indian roads do give us the feeling of off-road riding. The seat height is slightly weird at 820 mm, which is the only problem the F650 GS could have for short riders. The BMW F650 GS uses 300 mm double piston front disc and 265 mm single piston rear disc and has ABS as standard. The ABS system can be turned off if need be.
The parallel twin engine of the BMW F650 GS is quite smooth and delivers good amount of torque to ride the bike even in third gear at speeds as low as 30 km/h. The fuel tank capacity is 16-litres, which along with an estimated mileage of 20 km/l gives it a decent range. With a weight of around 235 kgs, the F650 is no light machine but that also ensures the bike has excellent high speed dynamics. The F650 GS then makes alot of sense for bad road conditions and could be an excellent option for the adventure seekers amongst us.
