In just 2.5 months since BMW Motorrad started operations in India, it has sold nearly 150 bikes and the R1200GS demand is the highest.
BMW Motorrad officially started its operations here in India in April this year and has sold close to 150 motorcycles. According to sources in BMW Motorrad dealerships, adventure tourers like the R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure contribute nearly 60 percent to the entire sales.
The BMW R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure are available in three trims each, starting at Rs. 15.90 lakhs for the standard R1200GS, Rs. 17.50 lakhs for the R1200GS Adventure variant and Rs. 21.50 lakhs for the R1200GS Adventure Pro variant (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
However it isn’t the adventure motorcycles that are alone getting the attention, BMW’s superbike, the S1000RR also has a considerable interest among superbike owners here. If sources are to be believed, owners of the current Honda CBR1000R Fireblade are looking to upgrade to the BMW S1000RR.
BMW Motorrad offers its entire line-up in India across five segments namely – Sports, Touring, Roadster, Heritage and Adventure. All these bikes are brought in as completely built units (CBU) from Germany.
Nonetheless, BMW was supposed to launch its mass market model, the G310R by this year-end. That deadline sees an extension again and BMW now says it will be launching the G310R sometime next year. Being manufactured at TVS’s facility in Hosur, the BMW G310R is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 2.50 – 2.75 lakhs. Meanwhile BMW will focus on establishing its dealer and service network across India. It currently has set up dealerships in Bangalore, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Pune, a fifth dealership will come up in Delhi in September.
