BMW Motorrad has displayed the R nineT at the 2016 Auto Expo. It is an interesting adaptation of a café racer in a modern style.
After operating in the country through three dealers, BMW Motorrad has officially entered India. It is the first Auto Expo that they are in participating in and the array of bikes on display is interesting. It includes various bikes but the one which stands out is the R nineT which looks very different from the company’s other offerings.
The BMW R nineT is a motorcycle with both retro and modern touches. The stance of the bike is very café racer like but it is loaded with all kinds of electronic wizardry. The round headlight at the front and the spoke wheels add a classic touch whereas the aluminium bracket for the seat and the golden coloured upside down forks give it a modern look.
The BMW R nineT is powered by a 1170cc flat-twin air-cooled engine which produces 110 BHP of power and 119 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a cardan shaft drive while the gearbox is a 6-speed unit. Being a CBU import, the bike comes with multiple customization options to suit the rider’s taste and preference.
The entry of BMW Motorrad into India is majorly due to the introduction of the G310R. While the current line-up consists of expensive bikes with sales volumes being extremely limited, the new quarter-litre segment bike will sell in good numbers if priced well. Considering TVS is manufacturing the same in India, a competitive price is expected.
