BMW Motorrad has launched the R 18 Classic with a price tag of Rs. 24 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India, today. Available in First Edition guise, the cruiser motorcycle is brought in as a completely built-up unit.
Based on the R 18, the Classic features additional LED lights, a large windscreen, 16-inch rims (front and rear), passenger seat and saddle bags, to make it a proper long-distance cruiser.
But, the basics of the R 18 remain, for the bike has a double loop steel tube frame, tear-drop fuel tank, exposed universal shaft and double pinstripes. Similarly, the circular instrument with an integrated display is also the same.
Featuring full LED lighting, the cruiser comes with a mid-mounted foot peg position due to the centerpiece of the BMW R 18 Classic, which is a 1802cc 2-cylinder boxer engine that makes 91 HP at 4750 rpm and 158 Nm of torque at 3000 RPM. It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission, while a reverse gear is an optional extra.
In terms of the suspension, the BMW R 18 Classic sports 49 mm telescopic forks upfront and a directly-mounted central suspension strut with adjustable spring preload. The braking system consists of twin 300 mm discs at the front and a single 300 mm disc at the rear.
The BMW R 18 Classic price includes 3 standard riding modes – Rain, Roll and Rock, safety systems such as Automatic Stability Control, Traction Control, Dynamic Engine Brake Control, Hill Start Control, ABS, apart from Electronic Cruise Control and keyless ride system.
BMW offers a 3 years and unlimited kilometres warranty as standard with the bike (with an option to extend it for a further 2 years) along with roadside assistance.
In addition, BMW also offers 2 different design collections of milled aluminium parts, a variety of handmade seats, and a custom exhaust for those who want to customise the motorcycle.
