BMW had showcased its range of superbikes at the 2012 Auto Expo. Present from the BMW Motorrad stable was the S1000RR superbike and the R1200 GS go anywhere motorcycle. The S1000RR needs no introduction. Power comes in through a 999cc, inline-4 motor, which produces 194 hp of power at 13000 RPM and 112 Nm of torque at 10250 RPM. Mated to a 6-speed, chain drive transmission with optional electronic traction control, the S1000RR is widely acclaimed as the fastest liter class bike in the world, nudging close to 300 kmph. It was also widely acclaimed last year as the bike of the year by most jurors.
The BMW R1200 GS on the other hand is a bike made for the adventure lovers amongst us. It is a dual sport motorcycle and uses a 1170cc, 2-cylinder boxer engine. This 8-valve engined bike produces 109 hp of power at 7750 RPM and 120 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. A shaft drive 6-speed manual gearbox ensures smooth shifts. The R1200 GS has been widely known as BMW Motorrad’s best selling motorcycle in many years and account for as much as one-third the sales.
