After a long teaser campaign, BMW M4 CSL makes global debut, only 1000 units reserved for the entire world
One of the fastest production cars from BMW, the M4 CSL, has, at last, made its global debut. The light-weight, powerful, and exclusive coupe’s unveil marks the 50th anniversary of the German maker’s performance brand M.
The new BMW M4 CSL is a limited edition model with production restricted to just 1000 units for the entire world. The coupe debuted in style setting a record lap time of 7:20.2 at the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife circuit.
The CSL has received a host of improvements and performance enhancements when compared to the regular M4 Competition making it one of the fastest production BMWs ever.
The new M4 is all about performance inside out. The design is more focused on improved cooling and downforce rather than good looks. But that doesn’t mean the new BMW looks boring. It does look amazing with premium bits everywhere.
Powered by the existing twin-turbocharged 3-litre inline 6 cylinder engine, the coupe’s output figures are a smashing 543 HP and 649 Nm, a good 40 HP increase from the M4 Competition.
The engine comes mated to the 8-speed M steptronic transmission that powers the rear wheels.
The performance car can be driven in pure manual mode using paddle shifters (made of carbon fibre) for a spirited driving experience. The CSL can hit the ton in 3.6 seconds while 200 km/hr comes in around 10.5 seconds. The top speed is limited to 307 km/hr.
The CSL’s weight has been reduced by a humongous 109 kg from the regular M4 with the current kerb weight being just 1605 kg. The weight reduction was contributed by a host of carbon fibre parts both on the inside and outside and a titanium silencer.
On the inside, the 2 M Carbon full bucket seats are the new attraction. They are not only lighter but also provide a sporty look.
They are stitched with black Merino leather with red Alcantara inserts, pronounced side bolsters, and fixed-angle backrest. But, they lack lumbar support, power adjustability, and heating.
Among the carbon fibre parts is the roof in itself. Its lower weight has greatly brought down the centre of gravity for least body roll at corners.
The company has also stiffened the engine and transmission mounts installing a specially developed strut brace that connects the 2 spring strut towers with the front end.
Stopping duties are by 6-piston fixed-caliper 15.7-inch front brakes and single-piston floating-caliper 15-inch rear ones. The wheels are a staggering 21- and 22-inch matte-black light-alloy ones wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.
The 2023 BMW M4 CSL price starts at Rs. 1.09 crore. Production will begin in July.
