The BMW iX, like many luxury electric cars, comes with a mammoth price tag

BMW has launched the pure-electric iX SUV in India at a price of Rs. 1,15,90,000/- (ex-showroom), today in India. The electric vehicle (EV), which is the BMW Group’s new technology flagship, is available as a completely-built-up unit (CBU).

Launched in xDrive40 form, the electric SUV can be booked through BMW dealerships as well as online through the brand’s site. Deliveries of the iX will start by the beginning of April 2022.

Unveiled globally a year ago, this oddly-styled electric car has, according to BMW, monolithic exterior styling. It does feature sleek lighting units, stylish wheels and contemporary character lines throughout.

The iX is available in exterior colour choices such as Black Sapphire, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Sophisto Grey and Aventurine Red (BMW Individual paint option).

Inside, the EV comes with olive-leaf tanned natural leather upholstery and an interior in Castanea colour scheme. BMW says, the interior is minimalist yet spacious due to the absence of a central tunnel.

Tech savvy customers would like the fact that for the price, BMW iX is packed to the rafters with features. On the outside, the car comes with a kidney grille with sensors, camera and radar tech and proximity sensors in body edging.

On the inside, the iX features multi-functional seats with massage function, ambient lighting, panorama glass roof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a head-up display and 14.9-inch touchscreen.

It also comes with Virtual Assistant, Natural Interaction (gesture control), wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, Parking Assistant Plus with surround view camera and Reversing Assistant.

Featuring 2 high-voltage batteries with a combined capacity of 76.6 kWh, the iX as an electric motor on each axle, that have a combined output of 240 kW (322 BHP) and 630 torques.

The car has a claimed maximum range of 425 km, does 0-100 km/hr in 6.1 seconds and consumes up to 22.5 kWh per 100 km. It also has drive modes – Efficient, Personal and Sport.

It comes with 2-year/unlimited km standard warranty and 8 years/up to 1.60 lakh km battery warranty

As for charging, when a 11kW AC charger is used, the car’s battery pack can be fully charged in 7 hours. Using 50 kW DC charger, up to 80 percent charge can be added in 73 minutes, while a 150 kW DC charger does the same job in 31 minutes (claimed).

As an introductory offer, the BMW iX price will include a 11 kW wallbox charger. Also, BMW says it aims to instal fast chargers at its dealerships present across 35 Indian cities.
