BMW India Recalls Diesel Cars For EGR Defect

2016 BMW X3 M-Sport Review Test Drive

BMW India has announced a voluntary service campaign to fix the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) defect.

BMW has recalled 7900 cars which were manufactured between 2011 and 2016

BMW India has announced a voluntary service campaign to solve an issue in the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler in some diesel models. As per BMW, the EGR module contains the soot deposits and high temperatures which could lead to the melting of the intake. In an extreme case, it may cause fire.

BMW has recalled 7900 cars which were manufactured between 2011 and 2016. These include 4-cylinder diesel models built between October 2011 to August 2016 and 6-cylinder diesel models from March 2011 to July 2015.

The affected cars include almost all the models from the BMW range. The 1-Series, 3-Series, 5-Series, 6-Series (Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe) and 7-Series while affected SUVs include the X3, X5 and X6.

BMW India will contact the owners of the affected diesel vehicles. This service will be free of cost. The repair work is expected to take around 1-3 hours, depending on the model. This comes under the worldwide recall of BMWs that affected 1.6 million units for the same issue.
