BMW i5 bookings open, will be offered in the range topping M60 xDrive trim in India
BMW India has announced the commencement of bookings for its highly anticipated all-electric sedan, the i5. Interested customers can now reserve their i5 either online or through authorised BMW dealerships across the country. The i5, slated to be launched in India in the top-spec M60 xDrive variant, is set to make its mark as a limited edition completely built-up (CBU) model.
The BMW i5 will be offered exclusively in the top-end M60 xDrive guise. Boasting a dual-motor setup, the M60 xDrive variant delivers 601 HP and 820 Nm of torque. The sedan goes from 0-100 km/hr in a mere 3.8 seconds, while maintaining an electronically limited top speed of 230 km/hr. Additionally, the i5 comes equipped with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, ensuring optimal traction and handling dynamics on varied road conditions.
In terms of design and dimensions, the i5 features a smaller wheelbase compared to its ICE counterpart that will be offered with the new generation 5-Series in India.
Fitted with an 81.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive variant offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 516 km on a single charge. Furthermore, the i5 comes equipped with a standard 11kW AC charger, with an option to upgrade to a 22kW onboard charger. For added convenience, the electric sedan also supports 205kW DC fast charging, enabling a rapid 10-80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.
BMW will disclose the pricing details for the i5 M60 xDrive soon. It is expected to command a significant premium over its ICE-powered counterpart, potentially crossing the Rs. 1 crore (ex-showroom) mark. Despite its higher price point, BMW assures customers that deliveries will commence on a first-come-first-served basis starting May 2024.
BMW i5 will join the wide portfolio of electric vehicles from the BMW Group in India, which includes BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW iX1 and MINI SE.
