The all-electric BMW i4 gets a price tag of Rs. 69.90 lakhs (ex-showroom), the limousine will be brought via the CBU route
BMW has launched its third electric car in India, the i4, for a price tag of Rs. 69.90 lakhs (ex-showroom). The other 2 all-electric models of the brand are the flagship iX SUV and the recently-launched Mini Cooper SE hatchback.
The i4 electric has been built based on the 3 Series CLAR architecture and is the all-electric version of BMW’s 4 Series Gran Coupe. It will take the CBU route for India.
It’s not a pure EV from the grounds up unlike the flagship iX. The i4 features a covered front grille with brushed silver lines, aero-tested wheels, piano black inserts, and prominent bulges and creases throughout. These changes render a premium look to the car.
On the inside, the curved 2-screen cluster consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It runs the latest iDrive 8 user interface with support for OTA updates and Android Auto / Apple CarPlay functionality.
The overall cabin layout is retained from the regular 4 Series Coupe although there are minor changes. The electric car gets rear air suspension and lift-related dampers.
Other features include 3-zone automatic climate control, LED ambient lighting, sunroof, reverse parking assist with camera, and 17-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system.
There’s only 1 variant on offer – eDrive40 which gets a 83.9 kWh battery pack mounted on the floor. Power supply goes to the rear-axle-mounted motor that pumps out 340 HP and 430 Nm helping the i4 accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 5.7 seconds. But the top speed is limited to 190 km/hr.
BMW claims the i4 can charge at 205 kW with 164 km range attained in 10 minutes. The traditional 11 kW wall charger can top-up the car in 8.5 hours.
The electric car gets regenerative braking which can additionally top-up at 116 kW. The maximum range is rated at 590 km (WLTP), which is highest among all the electric luxury EVs in India.
The limousine gets improved aerodynamics and cooling from the closed kidney grille, 10-stage active air flap, front lip spoiler, 17-inch aerodynamically optimised wheels, blue accents, flush door handles, and re-designed bumpers.
The BMW i4 currently rivals the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan.
