The much awaited BMW G310R has been delayed and won’t be launched in India in April as expected.
BMW Motorrad has decided to delay the launch of the G310R in India and although the company hasn’t revealed reasons for the same, we believe that the lack of a dealership network could be one of the reasons to delay the launch of the German entry-level bike. The company had confirmed on its Twitter handle that the BMW G310R India launch was set for Spring 2017 which is the March-May period.
The company will go ahead and launch its CBU bikes in India in mid-April as the 800cc plus motorcycles won’t require homologation which the G310R will. Homologation is both a costly as well as a time consuming affair. The R1200, K1600, S1000 and RnineT range will be launched while the F700, F800 and C scooter range will come in later. With the G310R delayed, all hopes of buying the G310 GS in 2017 are now gone.
BMW Motorrad is currently present in India via dealers who import motorcycles on order basis but the Bavarian firm is now taking two-wheelers in its own hand and has roped in ex Harley-Davidson India MD to head its operations in India (both two and four wheelers). The automaker is expected to price its CBU range quite aggressively as it has to compete with first movers in the Indian market like Kawasaki, Triumph and also Ducati, the three brands which also do CKD assembly of its bigger bikes in India.
