BMW has officially pulled the wraps off the all-new 2-Series Coupe. It is a smart looking compact coupe, which intends to replace the 1-Series Coupe. The German automaker has sculpted the 2-Series with neat proportions and styling. The BMW 2-Series is longer and wider than its predecessor with increased front headroom, rear legroom and boot capacity. The new styling elements look attractive such as the new set of angular headlamps with a sporty bumper, having wide air intakes. From the side angle, it reveals a strong shoulder crease, smooth coupe roofline and a fancy set of 5-spoke alloy wheels.
The rear profile of the BMW 2-Series Coupe gets a chunky tail lamp cluster with a sporty bumper integrating dual exhaust pipes. The interiors reveal the similar design language seen on the current BMW models. The M-spec steering wheel looks tempting and there is a wide screen on the centre console for the infotainment system. The interiors can be opted with different colour themes such as all-black, black/red and black/brown. The 2-Series is well equipped with the latest gadgetry and creature comforts.
BMW is offering both petrol and diesel engine options with the 2-Series Coupe. The US market will get the 228i and M235i. The BMW 228i features a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 240 BHP, retailing at $33,025 (Rs. 20.35 lakhs). The M235i gets powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder motor that churns out 322 BHP retailing at $44,025 (Rs. 27.18 lakhs). Both the engines come with an option of a 6-speed manual gearbox and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 228i is available in Sport Line and M Sport trims. Compared to its predecessor, 1-Series Coupe, the prices have increased slightly.
The European market will get the BMW 2-Series in three separate models. One is the 220i, which is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor that produces 181 BHP of power with 270 Nm of torque. Then there is the 220d that features a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, producing 181 BHP of power with 380 Nm of torque. Lastly, there is the range topping M235i. All the models will be offered with rear-wheel drive setup. Eventually, we can expect BMW to add a wider range of engines and an all-wheel drive option. An India launch doesn’t seem likely in the near future due to the limited appeal of coupes in our market.
