Tata Motors recently tied up with Big Bazaar to sell the world’s cheapest car at the latter’s retail stores. The Kishore Biyani led Future Group has managed to sell 450 Nanos in a month, 5% of the cars’ sales in February, 2011. The unique concept is the first in the country and no retail store has sold cars before. Tata Motors expects to boost sales through these innovative mediums of distribution as the company looks to establish a dominant position in the Indian car market.
“There is a lot of commonality between Big Bazaar consumers and prospective Nano buyers. Big Bazaar as a concept appeals to the masses and with over 150 million footfalls every year, we are trying to see how we can sell Nano, which has a similar positioning,” Sandip Tarkas, Customer Strategy President, Future Group said.
