Benelli TRK 502 launch set to happen in January 2018, India will get only the off-road ABS version.
DSK Benelli recently confirmed that it will be launching three new motorcycles including the TRK 502 by the end of this fiscal. However, we now have news from the top executives of the company that the Benelli TRK 502 will be launched in India by January next year.
The Benelli TRK 502 was unveiled globally at the 2015 EICMA Motor Show and later made its way to the 2016 Auto Expo in India. Benelli, in fact, had to launch the TRK 502 very early but delayed the launch due to various reasons. Top executives now say preliminary work on bringing this middle-weight adventure tourer is done except for the certification process.
With ABS becoming mandatory on new 125cc and above bikes from April 2018, DSK Benelli insisted they only brought the ABS version of the TRK 502 to India. Benelli also confirms that the smaller version of the TRK 502, the TRK 302 will not be making it to Indian shores.
The Benelli TRK 502 will come powered by a 500cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that produces 47 HP of power and 45 Nm of torque. This motor comes matched to a 6-speed gearbox. Being an adventure tourer, the Benelli TRK 502 sports studded off-road tyres, spoked wheels (19-inch at the front and 17-inch at the rear) and front forks with longer travel.
The Benelli TRK 502 is equipped with up-side down forks with 150 mm of travel at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are via twin 320 mm discs at the front and a 260 mm single disc at the rear. ABS is standard. The TRK 502 is already on sale in the UK for around Rs. 5 lakhs and in Malaysia for around Rs. 4.5 lakhs (prices are India equivalent) and is expected to go on sale in India priced upwards of Rs. 5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The TRK 502 will come to India via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route and as such will have no direct rivals.
