The global unveil of the Benelli Leoncino 800 and 800 Trail has taken place as the brand looks set to take on well established rivals worldwide with potent models.
First showcased at EICMA 2019, the bigger Leoncino carries forward the manufacturer’s philosophy of offering retro styling and modern hardware with the model.
Take the fuel tank, for example, it is simple yet muscular and the bike sports crisp lines, a throwback tail section, Leoncino branding on the side panels, while the round LED headlamp also has a LED DRL. Of course, the Lion of Pesaro motif on the front fender is also present.
While both the road-focused Leoncino 800 and the adventure-oriented 800 Trail are built on the same tubular steel trellis frame, the bike set to stay on the black stuff rides on 17-inch wheels, has adjustable 50 mm Marzocchi USD forks upfront with an adjustable monoshock at the rear with 130 mm travel.
On the other hand, the Leoncino 800 Trail has a 19-inch front rim, small flyscreen, Marzocchi suspension all-round (140 mm travel), knobby tyres, high-mounted exhaust outlets, and a taller seat height (828 mm). Both bikes have Brembo brakes.
Powering the Leoncino 800 and Leoncino 800 Trail is a Euro 5-compliant 754cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that produces a maximum of 76 HP and 68 Nm of peak torque. It comes paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.
Despite the Benelli Leoncino 800 unveil, prices have yet to be revealed, but expect it to be announced pretty soon. Whether these bikes will make it to India is not known, but if they do and are priced aggressively, they will be worthy alternatives to the modern classic range of bikes on sale here.
