Bajaj Auto’s replacement to the 200 NS has taken off to a good start with both the 150 AS and 200 AS clocking 30,000 units since launch in April this year.
Kickstarting a new segment of sorts, Bajaj Auto’s new Adventure Sport series has certainly taken off on the sales front amassing 30,000 units within four months of launch since its arrival in May this year. Available in 150cc and 200cc guise, sales have been as per the expectations of the company averaging around 7500 units per month. Given the fact that the AS 150 is more affordable at Rs. 79,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) in the premium 150cc category, achieving the sales figure has been relatively easy for the automaker.
The semi-faired Bajaj Pulsar Adventure Sport range is positioned as sports tourers boasting of split seats, single lens projector lamp and raised handlebars. The AS 200 is based on the same perimeter frame as the 200 NS with power coming from a 199.5cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is tuned to produce 23.5 PS and 18.3 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The AS 150 on the other hand uses a 149cc single-cylinder engine that produces 17 PS (highest in the segment) and 13 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
Interestingly, the arrival of the Pulsar Adventure Sport 200 in the segment hasn’t affected the sales of the older Pulsar 220F by any means. The previous generation model continues to rake in healthy numbers with 6025 units moving out of showrooms during July this year. The success of the AS 200 has also given the company enough confidence to discontinue the comparatively less popular 200 NS within three years since its arrival in the market. It now needs to be seen if Bajaj will be able to sustain the same bullish growth over the next few years.
