The Bajaj Pulsar is India’s favourite sports bike and last year was the only year in the history of the product that nothing at all happened with respect to the Pulsar. That is because Bajaj Auto is busy working on a new set of Pulsars which have been spied umpteen number of times. Details on the new Pulsars are aplenty but nothing official yet. Rajiv Bajaj has clearly stated that a high capacity Pulsar and a sub 200cc Pulsar will be launched in the near future.
The 200 SS seems like the sub 200cc Pulsar or is Bajaj hiding something. Could the spied bike feature a new 150cc engine with power output in the range of 18 BHP to compete head-on against the Yamaha R15 and Honda CBR150R. Ok, now we are speculating but wouldn’t that be a dream come true for quite a few bikers. Bajaj Auto will unveil the Pulsar 200 SS at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo and sales will start in the first half of the year. The Pulsar 375 will soon be launched as well and both these bikes share design elements.
The front of the full-faired Pulsar takes inspiration from the Energica electric bike and the uncamouflaged picture (at the end of this post) reveals the sharp elements which will definitely not induce a “love at first sight” feeling. The SS or Super Sport Pulsars will be the first to sport a full-fairing which has been developed neatly and gels well with the bike. The motorcycle also gets clip-on handle bars, twin-projector headlights, fairing mounted rear view mirrors, tall windscreen visor for reduced windblast, steel braided brake lines and ABS. The ugly tyre hugger is there like in all Pulsars and you should throw it away the day you get this bike.
Powering the Pulsar 200 SS will be the same 200cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine from the Pulsar 200 NS but with a fuel injection system, boosting power to 25 PS. The upgrades to the SS from the NS are going to make the Pulsar 200 such a better bike in almost all aspects. The motorbike will offer a sporty riding position, better braking, improved touring capabilities and better performance. All this will make the Pulsar 200 pricier by at least Rs. 30,000/- and thus the on-road price of the Pulsar 200 SS is expected to be around Rs. 1.35 lakhs.
