Bajaj Auto seems to have dropped the ex-showroom price of its Pulsar 135 LS by a good Rs. 3000-4000/-. The move is clearly made to entice customers looking for products in the rapidly growing 125cc commuter segment. The bike also gets a new cocktail wine red colour as previously seen on the Bajaj V15.
In a clear mass-over-margin move, Bajaj seems to have slashed the prices of its Pulsar 135 LS as per the data on their website. The move is clearly made to en-cash on the rapid growth of the 125cc commuter segment. The price drop puts the Pulsar right in the mix with the Hero Glamour and Honda CB Shine which currently retail for Rs. 55,213 – 57,312/- and Rs. 57,449 – 62,797/- respectively (ex-showroom, Pune).
The Pulsar, after its price drop, sits at an attractive price of Rs. 57,494/- (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Additionally, the Pulsar 135 LS also gets a new wine red colour, just like the V15. Bajaj seems to be updating its colour palette with the wine red colour, as the update has been implemented first on the V15, now the Pulsar 135 LS, and is also rumoured to be launched for the Avenger 220 Cruise.
The Pulsar 135 LS is the smallest bike sold with the Pulsar tag. As compared to its rivals in the 125cc segment, the 135 LS carries many superior attributes. That main thing being the higher displacement, which gives it an additional boost in power. The Pulsar 135 LS makes 13.56 PS of power and 11.4 Nm of torque, which is significantly more than its rivals in the 125cc segment. Additionally, it comes with front disc brake as standard, while the base variants of the Glamour and CB Shine get drum units.
Bajaj seems to be strategically attacking the lower mass market segments with its new launches. The price drop of the Pulsar 135 LS further confirms their approach. The plan seems to be to lure customers out of the 125cc segment into higher capacity bikes, where Bajaj has a more established hand with its Avenger 150 and V15. The strategy seems to be working, as according to SIAM figures, Bajaj has sold more 125-150cc units than Hero’s sales of their 110-125cc machines.
