Bajaj Auto has announced the launch of the Discover 100M, which is the latest variant of the mass market commuter motorcycle from the company. The Bajaj Discover 100M sits on an all new platform and uses a single-cradle frame. It is powered by a 100cc, 4-valve DTSi engine which produces 9.3 PS of power and has a top speed of 95 km/hr. M in the 100M stands for Mileage. The automaker is entering 18% of the market with the Bajaj Discover 100M. The tagline for the Bajaj Discover 100M is “Mileage Bikes Ka Naya Satya”.
The Discover 100M gets a new aluminium footrest holder. The wheelbase is shorter at 1255 mm and electric start is standard. Front petal disc (200 mm) is offered as an option. The Discover 100M is priced at Rs. 44,754/- for the non-disc variant and Rs. 47,699/- for the version with a front disc brake (all prices ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Thus the Discover 100M sits right between the Discover 100 and Discover 100T. It gets 1 PS less power output than the 100T but the same torque output, 9.2 Nm. Claimed mileage on the Discover 100M is 84 km/l which gets a 4-speed gearbox instead of the 100T’s 5-speed unit. The power to weight ratio is 82 PS/ton.
The Discover 100M gets five colours – red, blue and black. The black colour comes with three different decals – red, olive and blue. The exhaust muffler is different too but rest of the bike picks up parts from the Discover 100T (cluster, suspension, etc). The 100M has a fuel tank capacity of 9.5-litres against the 100T’s 10-litre tank. All M bikes will have Nitrox shock absorbers with similar overall dimensions. Rural market expectation is very high from the 100M.
The Discover S and ST are clocking 26,000 units a month (S stands for Sports). Bajaj Auto has segregated the entry level segment into three parts – M1 (entry level), M2 (value) and M3 (premium). The 2-wheeler major has 24% market share with the Platina which sits in the M1 segment. M2 segment has bikes like the Discover 100T and Discover 4G. The company has sold 2 lakh units of the Discover 100T which also includes exports. The T and ST are different platforms and the new 100M uses a new platform.
