The Bajaj Dominar 400 has been launched in 2 variants, priced at Rs. 1.36 lakhs for the Standard variant and Rs. 1.50 lakhs for the ABS model.
Bajaj Auto has launched the Dominar 400 which becomes the flagship motorcycle for the Pune based bike maker. First showcased as the Pulsar CS 400 Concept at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Bajaj Dominar 400 has taken its time to come to the market but the wait seems to have been worth it. The Bajaj Dominar 400 is priced at Rs. 1.36 lakhs for the Standard model and Rs. 1.50 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the dual-channel ABS variant. It is available in black, white and blue colours.
The Bajaj Dominar 400 is powered by a 373.3cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, triple-spark, closed fuel injection, liquid-cooled engine which generates 35 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 35 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. The motor is matched to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch. 0-100 km/hr time is claimed to be 8.23 seconds while top speed is 148 km/hr. The engine is the same unit as the KTM Duke 390 which although produces more power at 43.5 PS at 9000 RPM but torque output of 35 Nm is the same at a slightly higher 7000 RPM.
The Bajaj Dominar 400 uses a beam type perimeter frame, employing 43 mm telescopic forks up front and adjustable multi-step monoshock at the rear. The bike gets 320 mm disc up front and 230 mm disc at the rear with dual-channel ABS being optional. 100 to 0 km/hr takes 46.19 metres. The tyres on the Bajaj D400 are 110/70/17 and 150/60/17 MRF radials at the front and rear respectively.
The Bajaj Dominar 400 is 2156 mm long, 813 mm wide and 1112 mm tall, it has a wheelbase of 1453 mm and a ground clearance of 157 mm. The kerb weight of the Dominar 400 is 182 kgs while the fuel tank capacity is 13-litres. The bike uses a 8 AH VRLA, 12V battery and the headlight gets auto headlamp on (AHO) feature, it is a full LED unit.
Bajaj Auto is targeting to sell 10,000 units of the Dominar 400 every month. The motorcycle competes against the Royal Enfield Classic 500 and Mahindra Mojo. The main rival for the Bajaj D400 will be the Classic 350 as that bike accounts for almost 80% of Royal Enfield sales. Deliveries of the Bajaj Dominar 400 will commence from January 2017 while bookings are being accepted through a centralised online booking system for Rs. 9000/-. The bike is retailed across 80 showrooms in 20 cities.
