Bajaj Dominar 400 lighter version to get features from Pulsar NS400Z
Bajaj Auto has hinted at an upcoming iteration of its Dominar 400 model. While unveiling the Pulsar NS400Z, the company disclosed its plans to revamp the Dominar 400, aiming to address one of its key drawbacks – its weight.
The current Dominar 400 has been criticised for its relatively heavy kerb weight of 193 kg, which affects its manoeuvrability and agility on the road. To tackle this issue, Bajaj Auto is reportedly focusing on incorporating lighter components into the new model.
While specific details regarding the modifications remain undisclosed, industry experts anticipate the utilisation of lighter materials in various parts of the motorcycle. This could include the adoption of lighter wheels to replace the existing diamond-cut units and the introduction of a box-type swingarm in place of the current cast-aluminium unit. Additionally, transitioning to an underbelly exhaust system is expected to contribute to weight reduction.
Beyond addressing its weight, the revamped Dominar 400 is anticipated to inherit features from the Pulsar NS400Z, enhancing its technological offerings. Riders may benefit from features like ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control system, multiple ride modes and Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation.
However, it’s important to note that no changes are expected in the powertrain department. The Dominar 400 is likely to retain its existing 373cc, liquid-cooled engine, delivering 39.5 BHP and 35 Nm of torque. Similarly, the suspension and braking hardware may remain unchanged.
As for the launch timeline, Bajaj Auto has not provided specific details. Given the company’s upcoming commitments, including the launch of a CNG-powered bike in June and the Triumph Thruxton 400 around the festive period, we believe that the new Dominar 400 could hit the market by the end of 2024.
