Earlier this week, Bajaj Auto launched the 2018 Dominar 400 in our market and also published a teaser video which hinted that another chain of #HaathiMatPaalo advertisements were coming. As can be confirmed from the company’s social media channels, the Dominar 400 HaathiMatPaalo 2 series divided into three parts has now been released. In the past, the Pune-based automaker has shown its aggression a number of times through video series such as HaathiMatPaalo and the more-recent Dominar vs Social Media.

This time around, the company has tried to highlight aspects such as poor braking, cold start issues and low torque availability of Royal Enfield bikes. While the first two arguments hold true as the Dominar 400 comes with a powerful braking system (with dual-channel ABS while the Classic 350 doesn’t even get a rear disc as standard) and fuel injection, the third one about torque is something which many would find hard to digest. Moreover, Royal Enfield’s characteristic thump and phrases such as “Born To Ride”, “Independent” and “Ride The Wind” have been cleverly inserted in the videos.

Filled with Royal Enfield’s thumping sound in the background (also seen in the teaser video), the first part begins with an elephant rider signalling another to brake as the latter rushes down a slope on his elephant. Failing to stop on time, the elephant splashes into the river drenching everyone in no time. Moments later, a Dominar 400 arrives near the river and the rider is able to stop his motorcycle effortlessly on time. The next video shows elephant riders pestering their steeds to get moving but without any success.

After some time, a couple of Dominar 400 riders appear on the scene, thumb the starter button and their bikes wake up to a roaring start without any drama leaving the elephant riders in despair. The third video again makes liberal use of thumping sound and shows a group of elephant riders signalling the animals to turn around as the slope ahead looks too steep to traverse. Moments later, a bunch of Dominar 400 riders appear and in spite of being warned of the steep slope, pass the group of elephant riders leaving them bewildered.

It is understandable that Bajaj Auto is trying hard to garner attention towards its product but resorting to these tactics has resulted in discontent among fans and existing owners in the past as well. Priced at Rs. 1.42 lakhs for the non-ABS variant and Rs. 1.56 lakhs for ABS model (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi), the 2018 Dominar 400 remains identical to the outgoing version save for new paint schemes on offer along with Gold Dust colour alloy wheels.
