The Bajaj Dominar 250 is expected to make the Dominar attractively priced, again.

As BS6 norms near, every day there is a sighting of a car or bike with camouflage. Recently, the Bajaj Dominar too was spotted on test with red plates. Some thought it’s the BS6 version of the Dominar 400 but the cycle parts seemed inferior, the swingarm was smaller and different and immediately pointed to this not being the Dominar 400.

On further analysis, one can note the different chain cover, smaller tyres, smaller brake discs while the engine looks similar to the Dominar 400, well, at least the casing does. It certainly doesn’t look like a Dominar 200 though (again, the engine casing seems to be giving us a hint).

So in all likely hood, Bajaj seems to be working on the Dominar 250 which will be priced attractively to take on the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Mahindra Mojo. The Dominar 400 was launched at an attractive price but has lost the VFM tag with several upward price revisions. Prices of the Dominar 400 will further escalate once it complies with BS6 emission norms, leaving a big gap between the flagship Pulsar (RS 200) and the D400.

Thus, it makes sense for Bajaj to plonk in the KTM Duke 250’s engine into this cruiser motorcycle, with more cost effective hardware, for an aggressive price. The said motor belts out 30 PS of power and 24 Nm of torque, giving decent performance in the quarter-litre Katoom.

Bajaj had also confirmed that a new Dominar will be coming post April 2020 although the BS6 version is definitely coming, the Indian bike maker could surprise us with the Dominar 250 which is expected to be priced at least Rs. 50,000/- less than the 400 model.

In other news, Bajaj is celebrating 18 years of the Pulsar brand today with a few 15-seconder stunt videos, although the ‘Definitely Male’ motorcycle was launched in October 2001 and they seem to be a couple of months late with the celebrations.
