Bajaj Auto has unveiled its new scooter sub-brand Urbanite and revealed the Chetak electric scooter.
News of Bajaj Auto launching their new scooter portfolio Urbanite was known since a while and their new electric scooter was also spied on testing rounds multiple times. The manufacturer has now officially revealed details about the new sub-brand and the new Chetak e-scooter.
Production of the Bajaj Chetak electric commenced on 26th September 2019. The scooter gets a modern design with a steel body and is available with 6 colour options. It gets an LED headlamp with DRLs, feather touch electronic switches, and LED blinkers. The Chetak also gets a digital instrument cluster.
The Bajaj Chetak comes with a IP67-rated Lithium-ion battery with NCA cells. The battery can be charged with a 5-15 amp electrical outlet. It comes with an Intelligent Battery Management System which controls the charge and discharge. Bajaj will also offer a home charging station at a nominal cost.
The Chetak gets a range of 95 kms which goes down to 85 kms on Sport mode. The e-scooter offers two riding modes – Eco and Sport along with a reverse assist mode. It also gets regenerative braking. Also, Bajaj is offering a mobile app which has features like data communication, user authentication and security.
Retail sales will begin in January 2020 in Pune followed by Delhi. Pan-India sales will begin as soon as the country is ready. It will be sold through the Bajaj Probiking showrooms where KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles will also be available. Rajiv Bajaj stated that the strategy of Urbanite will be similar of how MINI is to BMW and there will not be any Bajaj branding on the scooter.
