Even though Bajaj Auto stated that the manufacturer will not be aggressive in the 100cc commuter segment, the company also mentioned that it will keep its existing models in the segment afloat. Keeping up with its promise, Bajaj will be refreshing the Platina 100cc motorcycle soon with a refreshed look to keep the model fresh in the segment. Changes on the refreshed Platina will be completely aesthetic and will include new decals, stickers and changes to the body panels.
On the mechanical front though, the Bajaj Platina will continue with the same 99.27cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled ExhausTec engine producing 8.5 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 8.5 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM, paired to a 4-speed gearbox. The commuter bike gets hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and rear with 125 mm travel and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels. The base variant comes with spoke wheels. Stopping power though comes from the drum brakes at the front and rear.
The pricing will also be the same on the refreshed Platina which will be available in two variants. The current price is Rs. 37,044/- and Rs. 39,030/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. The Platina competes against the Hero HF Dawn/Deluxe, Honda CD 110 Dream and the likes in the segment. The Platina averages around 35,000 units in the segment, which is quarter of the sales of the segment leader Hero Splendor that averages around 1,80,000 units month on month. With Bajaj witnessing dwindling sales in the segment, the company will receive limited relief from the refreshed version.
