Bajaj Auto preparing for new brand identity for electric three-wheeler vehicles

Bajaj Auto is gearing up for a major push in the electric vehicle space. The company plans to launch five new Chetak electric scooters and five new electric three-wheelers in the coming months, alongside a significant capacity expansion to meet growing demand.

Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, shared the company’s ambitious roadmap. “With the rapid launch of new products over the next quarter, we anticipate that the continued rise in sales of our electric Chetak, electric three-wheeler, and electric cargo three-wheeler will be significantly bolstered by the imminent launch of our e-rickshaw,” he said. Bajaj further added that the company’s electric vehicle portfolio aims to exit FY25 with an annual sales rate of half a million units.

New Brand Identity for Electric Three-Wheelers

Sources suggest that Bajaj Auto is planning to launch a new brand exclusively for its electric three-wheeler portfolio, similar to how its electric scooters are marketed under the Chetak brand. This new branding will cater to both commuter and cargo segments, with the e-rickshaw expected to debut in the first quarter of FY26. The move is expected to significantly boost sales in the electric three-wheeler market, where Bajaj already holds a 36% market share.

Leading in the Electric Two-Wheeler Market

Bajaj Auto’s electric two-wheeler portfolio has shown impressive growth. In December, the company sold over 8275 electric scooters, capturing a 28% market share, making it the largest electric scooter maker for the month. Competitors like TVS and Ola Electric lagged with 22% and 18.3% market shares, respectively.

To build on this momentum, Bajaj is set to launch a new Chetak electric scooter on December 20. According to sources, the new model will feature a larger battery, extended range and additional features, aiming to strengthen the brand’s position in the market.

Scaling Up Production

To meet its ambitious targets, Bajaj Auto is ramping up production capacity across its facilities. By March 2025, the company plans to produce 40,000 electric vehicles per month, with additional capacity increases planned for FY26 as demand grows.

So far in FY25, Bajaj Auto has sold 1.77 lakh electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, cementing its position as the largest EV manufacturer in India by volume.

A Strong Foothold in the Three-Wheeler Market

In addition to its EV ventures, Bajaj Auto continues to dominate the CNG three-wheeler market with an 80% market share. The company is leveraging this strong foundation to transition more customers to its electric three-wheeler offerings.

Bajaj Auto’s commitment to innovation and scaling up production demonstrates its confidence in the growing EV market in India. With new product launches and a focus on expanding its electric three-wheeler segment, the company is well-positioned to meet its ambitious target of half a million electric vehicle sales in FY26. However, as competition in the EV space intensifies, sustaining market leadership will require consistent product innovation and effective execution.
