The Avenger 150 finally gets a worthy rival in the form of the Suzuki Intruder 150. We do a paper comparison to find out how the two contenders fare.
The Suzuki Intruder 150 is the new kid on the block and intends to find itself a place in the entry-level cruiser bike segment in India. The Avenger brand averages sales of approximately 9000-10,000 units a month and Suzuki finds an opportunity to grow in this segment. Will the baby Intruder give the Avenger 150 a run for its money? Let’s find out.
Design and Looks – Let’s start with the Avenger 150. It looks a proper cruiser with less drama going into the design. The round headlamp design, high-set and wide handlebar, forward-set front suspension, low-set seat and the small 15-inch rear wheel with the chunky 130-section rubber make it a proper cruiser. The Bajaj looks lean yet sporty. The Intruder, on the other hand, comes across as a fresh design and looks butch and bulky. It borrows its styling cues from the bigger Intruder and most of its cycle parts are from the Gixxer. However, we feel the body panels are overdone as the tyres look small for that mass. Overall, the Intruder is nothing but a Gixxer in a cruiser attire.
Dimensions – Both the Avenger and Intruder are matched closely when it comes to the dimensions. However, it is the Avenger that is slightly longer (by 47 mm) than the Intruder but the latter is wider (by 4 mm) and taller (by 25 mm) than the former. Both being cruiser bikes, the Avenger is at an advantage when it comes to the seat height department. The Indian motorcycle has a seat height of 725 mm while its new rival gets a seat height of 740 mm. Clearly, the Avenger 150 is the bike that is more accessible to short riders. Where the Intruder is at an advantage is the wheelbase part. The Japanese bike has a wheelbase of 1405 mm while the Avenger has a wheelbase of 1480 mm. Shorter wheelbase means better flickability in city traffic.
Features – Suzuki comfortably steals the show when it comes to features. The baby Intruder gets LED projector headlamp, LED tail-light, fully-digital instrument cluster, twin exhaust ports, rear disc brake and most importantly a single-channel ABS. None of the above-mentioned features are found on the Avenger 150. The Avenger 150 gets an analogue cluster though. Both the bikes get telescopic forks and disc brake up front but the rear suspension and brakes are a different story. The Avenger uses twin shock absorbers at the rear while the Intruder uses a monoshock. Coming to the rear brake setup, the Avenger uses a 130 mm drum brake while the Intruder uses a 240 mm disc. If features are what you’re looking for, then you know which bike to put your money on.
Powertrain – Both the motorcycles come powered by 150cc engines. The Avenger’s 150cc mill makes 14.3 HP of power at 9000 RPM and 12.5 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM while the Intruder’s engine makes a good 14.8 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 14 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. Both the 150cc engines come mated to a 5-speed gearbox and both the vehicles weigh 148 kgs.
Verdict – At Rs. 81,459/- (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Avenger is the affordable choice and definitely good value for your money. It looks simple yet good, its 150cc motor is not only punchy but also fuel efficient. Prices for the Intruder 150 start at Rs. 98,340/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). If you’re on a budget, then look no further than the Avenger but if you are ready to shell some extra cash and intend to get noticed on the roads instantly, then head to the nearest Suzuki dealership and book yourselves the Intruder 150.
