It seems there is no chance catching the Dzire at the moment

In the sedans sales list for the month of August 2020, the compact sedan segment saw a small increase in overall sales. However, it was still less than what the premium hatchbacks could achieve during the same period.

Maruti’s Dzire saw 13,629 units get retailed in August, a small three percent sales increase, to grab the top spot in the compact sedans list. Honda Amaze was second, having retailed 3684 units (-19 percent), while the Aura and Xcent combo did the best, retailing 3228 units, a 145 percent growth over last year.

The Tigor from Tata was the only other car in the list with positive sales growth, having retailed just over 1000 units, a 22 percent sales hike year-over-year (y-o-y).

While the other cars in the segment watched, City and Verna duked it out

It was a close fight between the Honda City and Hyundai Verna, but the former came out on top in the August 2020 sedan sales list, having sold 2299 times over, a strong 44 percent growth.

Toyota’s Yaris saw 438 customers choose it, a 104 percent increase in sales, while the other cars in the list such as the Ciaz, Rapid and Vento, all saw sales drop in August compared to last year. However, overall segment sales grew by 13 percent.

Civic managed to sell nearly 10 times more than second-placed Elantra

Dismal is one word which is apt to describe the D-segment sedan sales. Only the Honda Civic did okay in the premium sedan segment, selling 204 times over with a 42 perent y-o-y growth. Less said about the others, the better. Overall sales tanked by nearly 30 percent in August.

No changes here, Superb once again bests the Camry

Luxury sedan Superb defeated its foe, the Toyota Camry by a whopping margin, as the latter only managed to reach 7 customers, while the Skoda sold 122 units of the Superb. Total sales was just 129 units, a 39 percent drop y-o-y.
