August 2020 car sales list shows that the retail figures of top 25 sold cars last month are up, except in the case of four cars, showing once again how fast the Indian automotive sector can bounce back after hitting rock bottom.
As we have come to accept, Maruti Suzuki is the leader in car sales, with the Swift, which was in fifth place last month, rising to the top of the chart, selling 14,869 times, with a year-over-year (y-o-y) growth of 19 percent.
Previous month’s leader, the Alto, is down to the second spot, but it saw a massive 42 percent growth over August 2019, while also doing better than July 2020.
Other Maruti cars in the top 10 are Wagon R (third), Dzire (fourth), Baleno (sixth), Ertiga (ninth) and Eeco (tenth) and out them, only the Baleno saw a slight drop in sales.
The car that lost out badly as seen in the August 2020 car sales list is the Honda Amaze as it saw its sales drop by 19 percent, from 4535 last year to 3684 this August. Other cars to witness negative sales are Hyundai Venue (-12 percent), Maruti Vitara Brezza (-3 percent), apart from the above mentioned Baleno.
Biggest gainer in the list is the Maruti Ignis which saw a 147 percent sales boost, having sold 3262 times over, followed by Hyundai Aura/Xcent combo at 145 percent (3228), despite the models occupying 24th and 25th places.
Among the top 10, South Korean cars Creta and Seltos sold 11,758 and 10,655 units, respectively, in August 2020 with a massive 96 percent sales hike for the Hyundai car and 71 percent improvement for the Kia car.
One thing that must be realised is that the positive growth seen in August 2020 car sales list should be rejoiced, for the numbers are better even amidst a pandemic than they were a year before when there was an economic slowdown. Suffice it to say, things are rapidly getting back on track.
